Join The Masters: vivo launches Imaging Academy, to premiere photography masterclass episodes online

 


Ahead of the local introduction of its newest flagship smartphone series, leading smartphone brand vivo announces the launch of the vivo Imaging Academy. The academy will feature a series of online classes with renowned photographers here and abroad which aim to not only spotlight the outstanding photography features of the vivo X80 series but also impart top-notch photography techniques straight from the ZEISS masters.

There will be a total of five main episodes which will each be spearheaded by photography masters and experts. Every 35-minute episode will showcase the masters’ work and life experiences, case studies and the key imaging functions and features of the X80 series in relation to different types of photography. At the end of each session, participants are encouraged to capture images and create their own art while applying the new techniques they have just learned.

Meet the Masters

Michael Halsband

New York-based photographer Michael Halsband was determined that he wanted to become a photographer at the very young age of 10. Many years and thousands of photographs later, he has already made his mark in the photography scene as the former exclusive photographer of The Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Andy Warhol, among many prominent bands and celebrities.

His works are exhibited and archived by major art museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London and The Andy Warhol Museum in Pennsylvania. For the vivo Imaging Academy series, Michael will be sharing his insights about Portrait Photography: Journey to understand what defines to be an iconic image.

Peter Van Agtmael

Known for his surrealist style of photography is multi-awarded photographer Peter Van Agtmael who is also based in New York. Heavily influenced by his Yale history degree and the 911 attacks, his works usually reflect images of conflicts, history, nationalism, militarism and social classes. He works with the New York Times and his works are archived by the International Center of Photography, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Deutsche Bank and Yale University Art Gallery.

Because of his extensive work especially on the US wars in Israel and Palestine, Peter has been recognized by the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund, the Magnum Foundation, Pictures of the Year International (PoYI) and the Pulitzer Center, among others. For the vivo Imaging Academy series, Peter will be talking about Documentary Photography: Finding the beauty in the ordinary.

Issa Barte

Michael and Peter will also be joined by other renowned photographers who are also experts in their respective fields. Among them is artist and photojournalist Issa Barte. Despite picking up photography only during the pandemic, her passion and dedication to giving a platform to the existing climate crisis at a grassroots level made it too difficult for National Geographic not to notice her work. In 2021, she was recognized as one of NatGeo’s 25 Young Explorers and Changemakers around the globe. Issa will be sharing her story and some expert tips through her episode Nature Photography: empowering change through photography.

E-Jay Zhang

ZEISS Ambassador E-Jay Zhang specializes in urban architecture, night scenes and night portrait photography. All the way from China, E-Jhay will be spearheading the episode Night Shot: Capture Amazing City Landscape at Night. 

To complete the list of masters and experts is Raul Romo, a self-taught freelance photographer based in Los Angeles, California. He specializes in portraiture and fashion photography.

Raul Romo
His works include magazine cover shoots for popular celebrities like Lady Gaga, Camila Cabello and Ashanti. For the vivo Imaging Academy master class series, Raul will be talking about Commercial Photography: Leverage lights and colors for stylish portraits.

Learn From Some of the World’s Best

The vivo Imaging Academy masterclass series will be available on vivo Philippines’ official Youtube and TikTok channels starting this month. The first episode featuring Michael Halsband will be available on June 15-20 while each of the remaining episodes will be premiered individually in the succeeding months following this schedule: Peter Van Agtmael (July 15-20), Issa Barte (August 15-20), E-Jhay Zhang (September 15-20) and Raul Romo (October 15-20).

The Future of Smartphones: What we know so far about Vivo’s 2019 opening salvo

In 2018, Vivo cemented its position as the innovator of the smartphone industry—always introducing breakthrough technology. From the Vivo X21, the first to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, to the NEX series that boasts of additional impressive features such as a huge screen-to-body ratio, to name one.




The consistently remarkable releases just gets everyone all the more excited for what Vivo will pull out its sleeves next. An unofficial image circulating the web, of what might be the speculated V15 or the latest in the NEX series, shows that it might bring in a groundbreaking pop-up front camera.


The image suggests that this model that will truly highlight what it’s like to have a notch-less display has been in the works since early 2018. Meaning, the innovative OEM brand has been brainstorming how to create the smartphone with a full-screen display for a while now. And that this development might be the game-changer in the smartphone industry that we’ll get to see in the near future, if not soon enough.


Aside from the intriguing front elevating camera, rumors are that it will also jump into the triple-lens trend. Based on the image study, could we be looking also into a waterproof smartphone? Vivo Provides Phone Discounts for Lalamove Drivers Nationwide

Global smartphone brand Vivo, in partnership with MemoXpress, a mobile device dealer store and Lalamove, a courier service have joined together to provide convenience to Filipino drivers. 



Lalamove partner drivers will get a 5% discount from the suggested retail price (SRP) of available Vivo phones such as the V11, V11i, Y71 (2 GB and 3 GB), Y53c, Y81, Y85, and X21 at MemoXpress stores nationwide from October 19, 2018 until December 31, 2018. 



With almost 15,000 partner drivers in Metro Manila, Lalamove aims to provide them quality benefits by partnering with top brands such as Vivo. Giving them access to topnotch mobile devices to help them with their day-to-day deliveries. 

All they have to do is to sign up using the MemoXpress portal (visit: https://mx.memoxpress.ph/lalamove-portal). The said portal will serve as a means to pre-order and pick up their preferred Vivo phone available at MemoXpress stores nationwide. A customer service representative will call to assist and confirm the partner drivers' orders. All interested partner drivers will only show their Lalamove ID and verified status on their Lalamove driver application at the chosen MemoXpress branch.

Vivo’s young stars troop to the ritzy V11 launch


Vivo’s roster of talents was led by blockbuster actor Daniel Padilla. He was joined by fellow stars Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Barbie Forteza, Kisses Delavin, Iñigo Pascual, Julie Anne San Jose, Loisa Andalio, McCoy de Leon, Elisse Joson, Vern Enciso, Verniece Enciso, Maris Racal, Darren Espanto, Ashley Rivera, Kira Balinger, Chienna Filomeno, and KZ Tandingan. 




The night’s entertainers, Julie Anne and KZ, show off the beauty of the Vivo V11 in their social media pages. 

The launch was kicked off by Julie Anne, also known as the Asia’s Pop Sweetheart, with her powerful medley of Jennifer Lopez songs that pumped up the mood of the guests. KZ, the Soul Supreme, then closed the grand launch with a mini-concert that highlighted her vocal prowess and engaging performance. 


Squad goals: A Vivo event is never complete without the signature selfie featuring its endorsers! 

The Vivo endorsers, of course, would not let the night end without their traditional selfie with Ms. Annie Lim, the Vice President for PR and Strategy Partnerships, and Ms. Hazel Bascon, the Vice President for Sales. The selfie was taken by Darren who made sure that the Vivo endorsers and executives fit the frame. He used the Vivo V11 that features a 25-megapixel AI selfie camera that produce more vivid and vibrant photos.

The Enciso sisters are not only fashionable; they are also techy with their Vivo V11. 


Fashion vloggers Vern and Verniece, meanwhile, guided the guests visiting the Vivo V11 Experience Area after the star-studded main event launch. 


DJ Ashley starts the party at the Experience Area. 


Ashley, although most known for her comedic acts, showed a different side during the event when she played DJ for Vivo. 



Maris and Loisa are as beautiful as the Vivo V11 in Starry Night and Nebula colors. 


Maris and Loisa also shared their talent at the launch and sang for Vivo’s partners. Maris showed off a jazzy vibe with her rendition of “Don’t Know Why,” while Loisa charmed with her sweet cover of “Starving.” The partners who were at the event were Google, Twitter, Globe, Smart, Lazada, Shopee, Akulaku, Spotify, Innity, Robinsons Malls, Ayala Malls, SM Supermalls, Under Armour, Home Credit, Cyberzone Group, Vivo Club Ambassadors, and Vivo Fans. 


Daniel, the blockbuster actor, took some time off from his busy schedule to throw his support to Vivo. 


One of the highlights of the V11 night was the press conference of the endorsers where they got to share why they love the latest Vivo smartphone. Daniel could not even stop himself from gushing over the V11, especially its In-Display Fingerprint Scanner. 

“Who here has watched sci-fi films that showed the use of fingerprint scanning technology to unlock the smartphone? Vivo to bring out the ethereal colors of the cosmos in upcoming flagship


In the past few days, Vivo has been teasing its followers with visuals that give a nod to the cosmos. One of the clues emphasized the curved shape of the moon while another super-imposed the thumbprint to a spiral galaxy. Other posts show space rockets taking off, falling stars, nebulas, and galaxies. 



The color of the cosmos can be in your hands with Vivo’s upcoming smartphone. 



So far, Vivo has been consistent in featuring the beauty of the universe in its latest social media posts. 

Today was no different. Vivo released another galactic content. The video showed stardust in blue and violet fusion, as if the two colors were mixed. It was released with the caption, “Experience an out of the world feat at the palm of your hands.” 

Eagle-eyed tech fans would have not missed the new smartphone silhouette that the video showed—with a tiny curve on top. 

Vivo has used various colors in its models for its previous releases. It introduced the Rose Gold and Champagne Gold in V5Plus, the Crown Gold in V5, the Matte Black in V7+ and V7, the Space Gray in Y53, and the Velvet Red in V9. 

The global smartphone brand’s endorsers in the Philippines have been dropping hints about the next Vivo flagship. Blockbuster actor Daniel Padilla of “The Hows of Us”, for instance, posted a photo of himself with a gradient pink and blue background and the words “Go Beyond,” tagging Vivo Philippines’ account. Other Vivo endorsers also posted similar photos of the same background, while there were those who posted photos of colorful backgrounds and playful lighting. Some of the Vivo ladies, meanwhile, teased with their makeup with hints of ombre palette.

    Vivo’s Filipino endorsers have been throwing hints on their social media accounts that something new is coming soon.

    Teen King Daniel Padilla posted a photo of himself with a gradient pink and blue background and the words “Go Beyond,” tagging Vivo Philippines' account.

    Other Vivo endorsers Darren Espanto, Julie Anne San Jose, Maymay Entrata, Maris Racal, and Paul Salas also posted the similar photos on their Instagram pages.




        
    Vivo endorsers hinted online that something new from the smartphone brand is arriving soon.



    TJ Monterde, KZ Tandingan, and Iñigo Pascual also posted photos tagging Vivo Philippines on IG. This time, their photos showed colorful backgrounds or lighting.



    Vivo ladies Kira Balinger, Joyce Pring, Loisa Andalio, Elisse Joson, and Sassa Dagdag posted closeup photos tagging Vivo Philippines, as if to emphasize their makeup.

       
    Do these photos tell something about the next Vivo flagship smartphone?  What is the common theme of these photos?

    In the past week, Vivo has been dropping hints on its social media accounts. It kicked off with a video of a fingerprint depicted like a spiral galaxy in an apparent reference to its pioneering In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology. Its second teaser was a video of a launch of a space rocket. The third one was another video of the moon with a curved line emphasizing its shape.
